WSU students, alums show their school spirit as they cheer on Warriors

More than 100 people came to watch at least part of the game, and though many left feeling disappointed, several applauded the Warriors at the end of the 35-21 loss. Students, alumni and other fans filled every seat at Wayne State's Student Center to watch the Warriors play Pittsburg State in the NCAA Division II football championship game on a large projector screen. It was Wayne State's first title game in program history and only came after the Warriors advanced to the playoffs for the first time. The Warriors are on the map now, and for at least a day, they grabbed the Detroit sports spotlight. The fans believed until the end, but it just wasn't the Warriors' day. but I'm happy they got this far," said Andrew Enajero, a fourth-year Wayne State University student. "When I was here, I never ever realized they had a football team," said 1976 graduate Charles Johnson. It just didn't happen," said Jeff Whitelow, a 1996 graduate.

He also produced a three-catch, 125-yard effort in a 24-21 victory over Alabama, including a 75-yard TD grab for the Tigers’ longest pass play of the season. Playing in all 13 games, including four starts, Randle caught 11 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman. A former Bastrop High Parade All-American, Randle was one of 75 players on the preseason watch list released Thursday by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club. Randle caught 33 passes for 544 yards and 3 touchdowns last season. At his best in big games, Randle snared a career-high six receptions for 73 yards and a TD in a 24-17 loss to eventual national champion Auburn.

ESU alumni inducted into Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame

The inductees include Judy Weigand Day-Trenary, who graduated from ESU in 1958, and Stanley D. Roth, who earned degrees from ESU in 1957 and 1959. She graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1958, a master’s degree in 1975 and an education specialist in 1984. Day-Trenary continued the family tradition and has made a living over the past 37 years teaching mostly third and fourth graders.
